Getting Greener and Cleaner
East Grinstead student Kat Ferguson shows off the special recycling sculpture she designed for the recent Clean and Green Day held in the town. Behind Kat are some of the 30 members of the Glo Youth Club who spent the day picking up litter and rubbish from the railway station, local playing fields, East Park and the Stone Quarry estate – collecting over 40 refuse bags of rubbish in the process. Annette Weatherald, community development co-ordinator with Downland Housing Association, co-sponsors of the day, said; “The day was a great success. Not only did we make the whole area look a lot tidier, the kids also managed to hammer home the message about re-cycling. The visit by the mayor made the kids realize what they had done was really beneficial. We shall definitely be organizing another Clean and Green Day.” Meanwhile, Kat Ferguson’s recycling sculpture will be on display elsewhere in the town in the coming weeks.
