Affordable housing boost for Crawley
Leading housing provider, Affinity Sutton Group, has announced the completion of 12 new flats at Capua Court, St Catherines Road.
Built on a brownfield site in Pound Hill, the affordable homes on the Air development will provide two bedroom/three person accommodation for rent and shared ownership and will be managed by Downland Housing Association.
The new homes were handed over to Downland on 30th November and nominations for tenancies have been provided by Crawley Borough Council.
The scheme was developed by Downland’s parent company, Affinity Sutton Group, and forms part of the Government’s bid to provide more affordable homes. Downland has one of the South East’s largest new home development programmes but this is the first scheme it has ever had in Crawley.
Neil Man, development project manager for Affinity Sutton said: “We are delighted to have completed our first development in Crawley and it has been a pleasure working with Crawley Borough Council and with the builder, Linden Homes.”
In another first for Affinity Sutton Group, the purchases for the four shared ownership flats, which were all sold off-plan, completed in a record time of just over a week following handover.
Cllr Brenda Burgess, executive member for housing said: “It is really good that this scheme has been developed so quickly and the shared-ownership and rented flats have been snapped up already. We look forward to working in partnership with Affinity Sutton on future affordable housing schemes.”
All the flats at the £1.3 million scheme, which has been grant funded by the Housing Corporation with support from Crawley Borough Council, have achieved the EcoHomes rating of ‘very good’ and are Secured-by-Design accredited. They also meet the Housing Corporation’s Scheme Development Standards for space and performance.
Ian Randall, Managing Director of Linden Homes South East said: “We are pleased to be working with Downland Housing Association and Affinity Sutton Group to bring much needed affordable new homes to the Crawley area. Through Air, we have provided a quiet and safe development in an attractive residential area of the town, where home seekers can successfully lay down roots for the future.”
