Fete accompli for sports star Jimmy

Soccer pundit Jimmy Hill helped residents in Hurstpierpoint raise money for a local hospice when he opened a community fete.

Jimmy joined staff and residents at Ribbetts House, a retirement housing scheme run by Downland Housing Association, for the event in aid of St Peter and St James Hospice.

With the help of Jimmy, performances by the Ditchling Morris Dancers and a range of stalls, games and table top sales, the event raised more than £450.

Trudi Hamer, senior scheme manager for retirement and care services at Downland Housing Association, said: “This is the second year that we have held a charity fete at Ribbetts House.

“The event is a great opportunity to raise money and show local people what a great resource Ribbetts House is, both for residents and for the wider community.

“We are very grateful to Jimmy and to all those who supported the event and helped us to raise so much money for a worthy cause.”

The event, which also included a bouncy castle, face painting and barbecue, took place on Saturday, June 30.
