Happy faces as new play area opens
There were big smiles on the faces of youngsters this week following the provision of a gleaming, new play area at Fullers Walk in Wick, Littlehampton.
The children turned out for a special fun event yesterday (4th April) to mark the official opening of the play area by The Mayor, Cllr. Malcolm Bellchamber.
Residents and representatives of Downland Housing Association joined in the celebration. As well as the new play equipment, youngsters were also treated to a circus skills workshop where they were able to learn how to juggle, walk on stilts and spin plates.
Mark Perry, Chief Executive of Downland, who funded the playground, said: "We are delighted to be able to provide children living in the Fullers Walk area with the new play equipment and we hope it will provide them with a good deal of enjoyment."
The previous play area was closed in October last year following fears that it no longer met today"s stringent safety standards. Since then the local residents" association has been working closely with Downland on the project to provide new play equipment.
Jude Williams, Chair of Fullers Walk Kids Residents" Association (FWKRA), said: "I am very pleased that the partnership working between the residents" association and Downland is going so well and achieving such good results."
The new playground at Fullers Walk offers a host of exciting and safe play equipment for local children to enjoy. The play area includes, among others, a climbing pyramid, log walk, swinging steps, springy plank and suspension bridge.
The new play area is part of an action plan of improvement measures for the estate. Regular clear up days to improve the appearance of the estate are held. These involve children taking part and receiving rewards for their efforts. In addition, some families have signed up to a good neighbourhood principles agreement.
