Local people benefit from new homes
at Bolnore Village
Downland Housing Association’s twenty-two brand new flats for the over 55’s at Bolnore Village in Haywards Heath will be officially opened on Tuesday (March 22nd).
The new scheme is now complete and provides twenty one-bedroom and two two-bedroom mock tudor style flats with a communal lounge and kitchen area on the ground floor.
Wickens Court has been named after Wally Wickens who sadly passed away last year. Wally was one of our tenants for 44 years and a Downland Board Member and Residents’ Consultative Panel member for Haywards Heath since 1999. Wally’s son will be attending the opening along with his wife and two daughters.
Roger Brocklehurst, Chairman of Downland Housing Association said: “Wally exemplified the value that Tenant Board Members can bring to decision-making at the highest level within the organisation through his contribution to the Downland Board and to its sub-committees over many years.”
Residents of Wickens Court will not only be able to take advantage of the close proximity of the local shops, but will also be able to access a large shopping centre at nearby Haywards Heath and the Tesco and Waitrose superstores, both only approximately two miles away.
The developers Crest Nicholson have created a sustainable community around the idea of a traditionally evolving English country village. The development features, rustic-style new homes, all radiating from a village centre, fringed by retained and managed woodland, and a patchwork of open countryside. The finished scheme will incorporate shops, recreational and sports amenities plus the developers have set aside land for other community initiatives including a first school, a village hall and a surgery.
John Jory, Chief Executive of Mid Sussex, said: "The Council is delighted to support Wickens Court in partnership with Downland Housing Association and looks forward to a successful future for the new scheme."
There are a total of 1,000 sheltered tenants at Downland aged 55 and upwards. Offering independence, security and company, sheltered accommodation is a great choice for those no longer wishing to manage alone. For more information about sheltered accommodation go to www.downland.org.uk.
