Railway approach is right on track
Thanks to the partnership working between Downland Housing Association, West Sussex County Council and Mid Sussex District Council the final roof tile will be placed on East Grinstead’s new Residential flats and Community Resource and Day Centre on Tuesday 8 February at 2.30pm.
The former Mid Sussex District Council car park has been re-developed to provide a three storey building with 28 flats for rent to people over 55 and those with disabilities. The project also includes a Community Resource and Day Centre and an underground car park with a recycling and bicycle storage area and additional CCTV and security lighting as recommended by the police.
The residential flats will be managed by Downland Housing Association providing secure one and two bedroom homes for those with disabilities and people wishing to remain independent in a community environment.
The Community Resource and Day Centre will replace the current day centre at Orchard Way and will include a large function room, activities room, restaurant, information technology suite, interview rooms and ancillary facilities. The centre will also be available for voluntary and community groups, particularly at weekends and during the evening and will be managed by West Sussex County Council Social and Caring Services.
Sunninghill Construction are working on this new landmark feature for East Grinstead with its terracotta tiles, self-finish render, grey windows and perimeter colonnade which reflects its proximity to the railway and the canopy design of railway stations.
Mark Perry, Chief Executive of Downland Housing Association said: “This project shows what can be achieved when working as a partnership. Downland is very proud to be working with West Sussex County Council and Mid Sussex District Council in providing a substantial contribution to East Grinstead”.
Lionel Barnard, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Social and Caring Services, said: "Having been involved right from the start I am delighted that these new facilities are now nearing completion. They will deliver real improvements to services in Mid Sussex, in particular East Grinstead, by providing for the community's changing needs. I am also pleased that there will be opportunities to work with local community groups and voluntary organisations, as they also play such an important role in providing daytime activities and preventative services."
John Jory, Chief Executive of Mid Sussex District Council, said "We are delighted to support this worthwhile initiative, which will be of value to the whole community of East Grinstead. This is something of which Downland Housing Association, Mid Sussex District Council and West Sussex County Council can be very proud.”
