Downland evicts family after anti social behaviour in Burgess Hill continues

Downland Housing Association will evict The Bolingbroke family of 25 The Hawthorns Burgess Hill at 9am Tuesday 18 January 2005. This follows their catalogue of abusive and threatening behaviour and use of foul language. The activities of this family were causing distress to Downland tenants who were living nearby, which is unacceptable.

Their last minute appeal was dismissed at Brighton Court this morning.

The Judge granted Downland a possession warrant based on this families continued anti social behaviour. A number of witnesses told the judge how the Bolingbroke family’s behaviour has affected them and described the family behaviour as appalling. Police Officers from Burgess Hill also attended Court to give evidence on behalf of the Association.

The Association originally obtained a suspended possession order last November following a number of incidents including an assault on another neighbour . The situation improved for a while but during the summer their behaviour rapidly deteriorated .

Kevin Day, Area Manager at Downland Housing Association said " The residents of The Hawthorns have suffered a number of years abuse from this family and they deserve a period of calm, this is another example of Downland and Sussex police working together in partnership to deal with anti social behaviour, I would like to thank the residents who attended court and gave evidence in this case"

Inspector Tim Tapley from Sussex Police said, "The misery suffered by neighbours as a result of this one families ongoing antisocial behaviour was horrendous. I hope the Bollingbrookes will learn lessons from the positive stance which has been taken, and I very much look forward to improvements to the quality of life for the residents of The Hawthorns and surrounding streets."
