Downland evicts anti social pair after partnership work leads to convictions
Downland Housing Association successfully evicted two people from 41 Holtye Avenue in East Grinstead this morning following a catalogue of criminal and anti social behaviour.
Today’s action was brought after complaints from local residents concerning alleged drug dealing from the property sparked off an investigation. Downland worked with the Sussex police to gather evidence against the occupants and arrests and evictions followed.
As a result of this investigation, the police were able to recover a number of firearms, offensive weapons, stolen computer equipment from local schools and a large number of mobile phones.
“The activities of these two individuals were not only breaking the law, but were causing distress to Downland tenants who were living nearby, which is unacceptable,” said Area Manager, Kevin Day.
“We hope that by evicting these people today we will have improved the quality of life of the neighbouring tenants and also sent out a message that we will not tolerate this kind of behaviour.
“Today’s eviction and the police action demonstrates that there is support for the vast majority of residents who wish to live their lives without fear of anti social and criminal behaviour,” he added.
Inspector Anthony Wakefield of the Sussex Police said, "this is an excellent example of different agencies working together.
“As a result of information received the police executed a warrant recovering evidence for a number of offences. This information was passed on to Downland, one of our working partners, who have put into place actions to protect the local community from further problems.
“We will continue to use this effective partnership to resolve problems within the community," he added.
